Convenience stores selling Split the Pot, hospital lottery tickets

Published:

Split the Pot Lottery supports 58 Ontario hospitals.

With the continued success of the Split the Pot Lottery, more hospitals have come on board and access to tickets is expanding.

Unlike the individual hospital 50/50 draws, Split the Pot supports 73 health care facilities across Ontario.

Funds critical equipment

Both act as vital fundraisers for critical equipment and services.

“The funds raised from the lotteries are having an unbelievable impact on the care that is being provided at Health Sciences North by helping to fund vital life-saving equipment, specialized procedures, cancer research and critical hospital improvements,” President and CEO of Health Sciences North Foundation Anthony Keating said.

“Many procedures that previously required sending patients to Toronto or Ottawa can now be performed here.”

Each month, half of the jackpot is split amongst the hospitals and the other is split amongst 13 winners in varying amounts.

One winner receives 60 per cent of the payout, two winners each receive 10 per cent and the final 20 per cent is split amongst 10 other winners.

Getting tickets

Dozens of convenience stores are now selling tickets to the monthly Split the Pot and local hospital 50/50 draws.

There are 63 convenience stores from across the northeast and Barrie participating including the following communities: Greater Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Barrie and Innisfil, Timmins, North Bay and Thunder Bay.

Proceeds benefit the local hospital and stay in the community they are raised in.

Ongoing success

“The HSN 50/50 Cash Lottery has been running monthly online for nearly six years and has contributed over $21 million to Health Sciences North, with 70 winners who have won a total of over $30 million in cash prizes,” the Sudbury hospital foundation said.

“Additionally, Split the Pot Lottery has raised $82,977 for Health Sciences North, with seven lucky winners from Sudbury sharing over $37,000 in prize money, including six early bird winners and one grand prize winner.”

At the time of publication, the Split the Pot Lottery had an estimated payout of $440,130 for the May 1 draw.

Meanwhile, the current HSN 50/50 Cash Lottery jackpot is worth an estimated $346,240 for the April 25 draw.
