Cocaine, shotguns seized in northern Ont. First Nation

Two men from southern Ontario are facing multiple charges after police seized cocaine, shotguns and other items during a drug trafficking investigation in Deer Lake First Nation.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to a call Thursday evening, regarding suspected drug trafficking activity involving individuals in a white pick-up truck. Officers from the Deer Lake First Nation detachment located the vehicle and identified two male suspects.

Following an investigation, police allege the men were in possession of firearms and cocaine. The suspects were arrested without incident.

Officers seized two shotguns, cocaine, cash and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

As a result of police efforts, a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, both from Wellesley, Ont., have been charged with two counts each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and careless storage of a firearm. They also face charges of drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. The 33-year-old suspect is additionally charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Both accused appeared in court for a bail hearing on Feb. 14 and were remanded. They remain in police custody awaiting future court appearances.
