Brinks Canada driver, company charged in fatal northern Ont. crash

Ontario Provincial Police says a Brinks Canada and one of its truck drivers have been charged in connection with a fatal collision last November on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines.

Brinks Canada and one of its truck drivers have been charged in connection with a fatal collision last November on Highway 17 in northern Ontario.

A 57-year-old from Thessalon was killed in the four-vehicle collision that took place just east of Bruce Mines.

A 64-year-old Brinks driver from Prince Township was charged with careless driving causing death, failing to display an inspection sticker, failure to maintain a daily log and failing to surrender a completed daily inspection report.

The Brinks Canada office in Sudbury was charged with permitting a person to drive a commercial motor vehicle not in accordance with regulations; permitting the operation of a vehicle that was failing to display an inspection sticker or proof; and, failing to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Provincial Offences in Sault Ste Marie on March 19.
