Blind River firefighter in hospital with serious injuries

A firefighter is in stable condition in hospital after being injured battling a fire that broke out early in the morning in Bind River on June 7.

In addition to the injury, four people have been displaced and there is damage to three local businesses.

The Blind River Fire Department responded to the blaze around 4 a.m. at two properties on Woodward Avenue.

“A total of 17 firefighters and five apparatus responded to the incident,” officials said in a news release.

Serious injuries

“Fire crews worked diligently to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage.”

The firefighter was hurt during that effort, the release said.

“The firefighter is currently reported to be in serious but stable condition. The thoughts of the entire Blind River Fire Department are with our firefighter and their family as they recover.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the release added.

“Damage to the building is considered significant,” officials said.

“The investigation remains ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.”
