News of ongoing closures of Beer Stores in the province continued Wednesday with news that two more stores in northern Ontario will close Nov. 2.

Affected are the stores on Valois Drive in Mattawa and on Notre Dame Avenue in Sudbury.

The sites are two of six store closures the company announced Wednesday. The other sites are in London, Mississauga, Niagara Falls and Pickering.

Last month, The Beer Store announced that locations in Little Current and Noëlville will close at the end of the business day Oct. 19. Locations in Levack and Azilda closed in July.

Will support employees

“The Beer Store recognizes the contributions our employees make to the business and in the communities where we operate,” Ozzie Ahmed, the Beer Store’s vice-president of retail, said in the release announcing the closures.

“All efforts will be made to support employees through this process in alignment with commitments and agreements.”

The Beer Store will continue with its bottle and can recycling program until at least 2031.

Grocery stores that sell beer will have to begin accepting empties through the Ontario Deposit Return Program starting Jan. 1, 2026.

To find where empties can be returned, the Beer Store has created a locator on its website, on the ‘Returning Empties’ navigation bar.

The company has been closing locations under a deal with the province that allowed stores to sell beer.
