Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a car was set on fire in the Anjou borough on Saturday night.
According to SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils, at around 9:05 p.m., police officers responded to a 911 call about a parked vehicle on fire on l’Alsace Avenue near d’Allonnes Avenue.
The flames quickly spread to a second parked vehicle before firefighters from the Montreal fire department arrived and brought the fire under control.
“Based on the information provided by two witnesses, two suspects were seen fleeing the scene on foot after the fire had started,” said Chèvrefils.
“Incendiary objects were found at the scene, which is why it appears to be criminal in nature.”
The targeted vehicle was a total loss and was towed for further analysis. The second vehicle sustained major damage and was also towed.
There was no damage to the property and no injuries were reported.
The investigation was transferred to the SPVM’s arson squad.
