Quebec museums to get a $5-million-a-year boost

Quebec is adding $5 million a year to the funding pot for accredited museums.

Minister of Culture and Communications Mathieu Lacombe made the announcement on Thursday afternoon in Rivière-du-Loup, where a one-day meeting of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) caucus will take place from Friday.

The total budget for accredited museums will therefore rise from the $79.4 million originally planned for the three-year period from 2025 to 2028 to $89.5 million, representing an additional $5 million per year for 2026–2027 and 2027–2028.

The increase in funding will particularly benefit the 42 accredited museums considered to be in remote areas.

Quebec already had 185 accredited museum institutions, and the government announced on Thursday that seven newly accredited establishments will be included in the Operating Assistance Programme for Museum Institutions (PAFIM).

These are the Forge-menuiserie Cauchon, the Manoir Mauvide-Genest, the Cité de l’Énergie, the Maison Merry, the Guido Molinari Foundation, the Église Sainte-Amélie and the Musée des beaux-arts de Mont-Saint-Hilaire.
