A Quebec man who threw rocks at dozens of oncoming vehicles in Sherbrooke, Que. over a two-month period has pleaded guilty.
In total, there were 57 victims who recounted similar stories for the court of driving on local streets in Sherbrooke, Que. when they suddenly heard a loud “boom” and saw their windshields shattered. They said the rocks were thrown by another driver in the opposite lane.
According to an agreed statement of facts, the assaults happened between January and February last year.
In one of the incidents, on Feb. 13, a woman said she was driving on Val du lac Road when a large rock hit her windshield. “Shards of glass were thrown onto her face, body and passenger compartment,” the document stated.
CTV News confirmed that Jonathan Corriveau, 45, pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of assault with a weapon.
The Journal de Montréal reported that, since he was credited for time already spent in jail, he is set to be released next week.
According to the court document, he was arrested on Feb. 14 when a victim, whose car had just been hit with a rock the size of a fist, flagged down a police officer who happened to pull over Corriveau’s vehicle. He informed the officer of what just happened to him.
The officer found 24 rocks in his Audi A4 and arrested him.
He was held in jail until Feb. 26. However, he reoffended that same evening when he threw a rock at an oncoming car passing by his home, before he fled the scene into the woods.
He was arrested the following day.
He waived his right to present a defence and admitted the facts brought forward by the prosecution.
