Quebec man charged with second-degree murder after woman killed on Montreal’s South Shore

Othmane Rafik, 28, has been charged in the killing of 29-year-old Denise Brouillette in Longueuil, Que.

A Quebec man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 79-year-old woman on Montreal’s South Shore earlier this month.

Denise Brouillette’s body was found inside an apartment on Cuvillier Street Ouest in Longueuil on March 16. Her death was initially investigated as suspicious, but then investigators deemed the following day that she was killed.

Longueuil police arrested Othmane Rafik, 28, on Thursday. A charge sheet says the victim died sometime between March 14 and 16.

Rafik is also accused of stealing various objects from Brouillette, valued at less than $5,000, and stealing a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. He also faces a count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Court records also show that he is accused of violating the conditions of his release relating to a previous file on his criminal record. In the previous case, he was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault against another complainant.

“We would like to take this opportunity to offer Ms Brouillette’s family and friends our most sincere condolences,” Longueuil police wrote in a post on social media on Thursday.
