Montreal police (SPVM) is investigating after a bullet hole was found in the window of an apartment building in the Sud-Ouest borough Wednesday night.

The force says it received a 911 call at 8:30 p.m. about a possible break-in in progress.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a shell casing on the ground and a bullet hole in a window in the rear of the building.

“Several police officers were deployed to check on the safety of the residents and the entire apartment building,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “It has not yet been determined when the gunshot was fired.”

She confirmed that there were no signs of a break-in, and there have been no arrests.

Investigators are expecting to meet with residents as they gather information on the events leading up to the discovery of the bullet hole.
