Four-legged inspectors part of Canada’s border security plan

As Canada’s border is under increasing scrutiny, Ottawa has been under pressure to show its efforts to beef up security.

On Friday, Public Safety Minister David McGuinty was in Rigaud, Que. for the induction ceremony of new border agents and also meet some of the four-legged inspectors working on the frontlines.

When it comes to sniffing out drugs and guns, six-year-old Deuce is a real ace, according to his handler, Adrian Lafrenais. Normally, he works at the Emerson border crossing in Manitoba.

But on Friday, he was showing off his skills at the canine training facility for the public safety minister.

Everything in the warehouse is designed to simulate real life, from vehicles to the luggage carousel at an airport.
