BIXI adding 22 stations in Longueuil, including at the airport

BIXI is adding 22 new stations in Longueuil on Montreal’s South Shore, a continuation of its large-scale expansion to the suburbs.

“This fourth phase of expansion in Longueuil represents a major milestone in the network’s growth, integrating the Saint-Hubert borough and the airport area,” city officials state. “This is great news for Longueuil residents getting back on their bikes this spring and another step forward for active mobility on the South Shore.”

In addition to the new stations, 205 bikes - 154 standard and 51 electric - are expected to be added to the South Shore network, bringing the total to 74 stations and just over 700 bikes.

“I am delighted to announce this expansion of active transportation options in the area,” said Sylvain Lambert, executive committee member for infrastructure, ecological transition and the airport zone. “Transportation options in the area are increasing, and this is excellent news for residents.”

He notes that more than 180,000 BIXI transactions were recorded in 2025, a growth of 66 per cent compared to 2024, “which itself saw a 216 per cent increase over the previous year.”

“The enthusiasm for BIXI in Longueuil shows no signs of waning,” Lambert added.

In addition to bolstering existing services in the Vieux-Longueuil and Greenfield Park boroughs, the majority of the new stations are designated for the borough of Saint-Hubert, according to city officials, with 16 stations, including two near the Montreal Metropolitan (MET) Airport.

“The station serving the MET airport terminal will be installed after the construction work currently underway,” the city said. “Residents of the borough will also benefit from improvements to the Longueuil network by taking advantage of stations strategically located throughout the area, particularly near the Raymond-Lévesque Library and Parc de la Cité.”

Officials explain that an additional expansion is planned in 2027 “to further enhance the rollout of the BIXI bike-sharing service across the entire Longueuil area.”

“By expanding our presence in Longueuil, we are reinforcing a unique model where a single subscription allows users to travel freely from one city to another without constraints and enabling intermodal travel,” said BIXI CEO Christian Vermette. ”BIXI is becoming a true transportation habit, no matter where you are.”

BIXI operates 24 hours a day from April to November each year.
