Quebec’s Transport Ministry (MTQ) is reminding drivers to monitor road closures and snow removal operations before heading outside, as wind and other factors have caused snow walls to fall on some roads, prompting emergency closures with little warning.
“Removal crews have been working for several days to ensure your safety on the roads, as was the case on Highway 15 in La Prairie, where a wall of snow was built up on the roadway,” Mobility Montreal wrote on its Facebook page.
A video attached to the post shows a massive wall of snow falling across the highway, making it impossible to pass.
“This procedure is quite normal for us,” said MTQ spokesperson Sarah Bensadoun. “We remove snow using different techniques according to the type of road, the types of precipitation and the environment.”
Crews were quickly on the scene to remove the snow.
The MTQ said a special team has been tasked with monitoring the road network and coordinating interventions when needed.
Bensadoun added that Highway 15 in La Prairie is prone to blowing snow and was closed several times over the past week.
“Once the weather conditions were favourable, the team went on-site to remove the accumulated snow,” she said.
The MTQ is reminding drivers to consult Quebec511.info before leaving their homes, as conditions can change quickly.
