Arson squad investigating after car set on fire in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

The SPVM arson squad is investigating a suspicious fire in the Mercier – Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to Montreal police (SPVM), officers responded to a 911 call around 2 p.m. reporting that a parked car was on fire on Michel-Bouvier Street near Langelier Boulevard.

The vehicle was parked in the lot of a private residence.

“When police arrived on the scene, firefighters had the fire under control. Residences were evacuated as a precautionary measure,” the SPVM said.

Authorities found incendiary materials at the scene, and the file was transferred for investigation.

Police said the vehicle sustained major damage and was towed for analysis.

No arrests have been made.
