A three-day strike has been affecting five ferries in Quebec since 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) has announced on its website that service will be completely interrupted at the Sorel-Tracy-Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola crossing until Tuesday due to the strike.

In addition, there will be only one ship on the L’Isle-aux-Coudres/Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive ferry during the strike period, and service will be partially interrupted between Tadoussac and Baie-Sainte-Catherine, where only essential services will be maintained.

A disruption to car services was already planned between Quebec City and Lévis due to infrastructure upgrades. The other crossing affected by the strike is Matane/Baie-Comeau/Godbout.

The 150 members of the Steelworkers union, affiliated to the FTQ, who hold positions as navigation officers and mechanical officers, are on strike until 7 p.m. Tuesday. They will be picketing during the day.

The dispute mainly concerns wages and the use of subcontractors.
