Workers at 400 Quebec childcare centres (CPEs) will go on strike again on Wednesday, this time for three days.

These will be their sixth, seventh and eighth days on strike since their first strike mandate lasted five days, and they have exhausted it. They are thus beginning their new strike mandate, which could theoretically extend to a general and unlimited strike.

The workers are members of unions belonging to the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS), which is affiliated with the CSN.

In addition to striking for three days, they will be demonstrating in front of the National Assembly on Thursday.

The FSSS is the only organisation that has yet to reach a settlement with Quebec, since the other three, affiliated to the CSQ and the FTQ, renewed their agreement several months ago. Their members have even ratified it. However, it is the FSSS that represents the largest number of these workers in the Early Childhood Centres, and it still considers the offers made by Quebec to be insufficient.

The dispute concerns wages, workload, bonuses for workers in the regions and assistance for children with special needs.
