Windsor Express hosts event for prospective co-op students

Published:

The Windsor Express hosted a student event at the WFCU on Tuesday afternoon, where Grade 12 students spoke to younger students about their co-op experiences.

A rare afternoon game in the basketball super league on Tuesday as the Windsor Express hosted a team from Ohio, and students from the Greater Essex County District School Board.

Grade 12 students, from across the board, were part of a co-op engagement event in conjunction with the Windsor Express at the WFCU centre.

They shared their experience, through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, and the public board’s Specialist High Skills Major Programs with grade 10 students.

“[It] doesn’t matter what sector they’re looking to go into, we’ll provide them with the training - that co-op part, which is with those co-op employers, experiential learning,” said GECDSB High Skills Major Lead Justin St. Pierre. “And that’s really going to be allowing them one of two things: either to know for sure this is what they want to do and commit to, or they’re going to figure out that maybe this isn’t for me.”

Community partners, like Windsor Regional Hospital and Windsor Police Service, were on hand showcasing co-op opportunities available to those grade 10 students next year.
