Wild weather shift brings wind, snow squalls and falling temperatures

Reta Ismail has the latest forecast for southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for London and area, up to 90 km/h gusts for this afternoon, and a snow squall warning for parts of Midwestern Ontario.

“Grey Bruce, Huron and Perth [counties] you could get up to 40 cm of snowfall... the rainfall moving out and behind it cold, windy conditions heading into the night,” said CTV News London’s Reta Ismail.

“You could see the cold front already crossing through with strong winds over Lake Huron, and of course that is the perfect recipe for snow squalls and flurries to develop.”

Bitterly cold temperatures return for Tuesday and on and off scattered flurries throughout the day.

“We are going to drop to -6 by midnight. The winds will continue to gust out of the west northwest up to 70 kilometers per hour overnight. And tomorrow morning you’ll wake up feeling -22 C with the wind chill.”

It’s not until Thursday we start to normalize with a seasonal daytime high, but that will come with a rain snow mix.

Monday Night: Cloudy. 40 per cent chance of flurries this evening. Flurries beginning near midnight. Risk of snow squalls overnight. Local blowing snow overnight. Local amount 5 cm except 10 cm in snow squalls. Wind west 40 km/h gusting to 70. Low minus 10. Wind chill minus 22 overnight.

Tuesday: Flurries ending near noon then cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries. Risk of snow squalls in the morning. Local blowing snow in the morning. Local amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind northwest 50 km/h gusting to 70 diminishing to 30 gusting to 50 in the morning. High minus 5. Wind chill minus 22 in the morning and minus 14 in the afternoon.

Wednesday: Cloudy. High minus 1.

Thursday: Periods of rain or snow. High plus 5.

Friday: Cloudy. High 6.
