‘We stand together during this difficult time’: Hockey association pays tribute to player who died in snowmobile accident

The Thamesford Minor Hockey Association will honour Dominic Cross Thursday night, who was killed in a snowmobile crash over the weekend.

The Thamesford & Area Minor Hockey Association (TAMHA) will honour the memory of Dominic Cross Thursday evening.

Cross died after the snowmobile he was riding collided with a pickup truck on the morning of Jan. 31.

The collision happened on Oxford Road 89, just south of St. Marys.

A statement from the association reads, “There are no words that can ease this kind of loss. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with Dominic’s family, friends, teammates, and all those who knew him during this difficult time.”

Dominic played for five seasons in Thamesford, most recently with the U-15 Green Team coached by his father, Trevor.

The statement from the association says, “Dominic was loved by all his teammates. He was known as a team player who was always willing to help. Dominic was known to bring laughter wherever he went and lived life to the fullest. When Dominic was not at the rink he loved to fish and be outside.”

TAMHA will be honouring Dominic during his team’s home game at the Thamesford District Recreation Centre. The game gets underway at 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

The association says many neighbouring communities and hockey organizations have reached out to show their love and support during this challenging time.

They’re asking people attend the gathering and show support by wearing their team’s minor hockey jersey.

The association statement says, “We stand together during this difficult time.”

TAMHA leadership is also encouraging people to donate to an online fundraiser established to help pay for the funeral and any other costs they are facing.
