The Middlesex OPP have confirmed a train collided with a vehicle in Thames Centre.

On Dec. 3 just after midnight, emergency services were called to a railroad crossing on Elgin Road at Catherine Street after receiving reports of the collision.

Police said the driver of the car got stuck on the tracks, leaving the vehicle before a Canadian National train struck it.

The train came to a stop safely. The tracks did not sustain any damage and no injuries were reported.

A 33-year-old Mississauga driver has been charged with careless driving, using a license plate not authorized for the vehicle and failure to give way to railway equipment at a road crossing.

Elgin Road was closed for a period of time as the investigation was underway. It has since re-opened.
