Special weather statement issued as strong winds trigger blowing snow and lake‑effect flurries

Reta Ismail has the updated forecast for Tuesday afternoon

We have a special weather statement in place with strong, gusty winds over Lake Huron causing blowing snow and lake effect flurries, we’re expecting this statement to be in place until at least about 8 p.m., when those winds start to subside.

Heavier amounts of snow are expected throughout midwestern Ontario, strong winds again out of the west expected to taper off later this evening.

“Now the next story is we have a couple of low pressure systems that will swing through in the next two days. The first one will move through early Wednesday as a result, will have some snow. Our temperatures remaining on the colder side tonight into tomorrow morning,” said CTV News London’s Reta Ismail.

“The system has changed in the forecast model, we are expecting some snowfall amounts ranging between 2 to 5cm depending on where you are. The Bulk of the moisture pushing through just in time for your commute home on Wednesday.”

Ismail went on to say, “As that system moves out, another one sets up in behind it — this will be a bit tricky because if you’re in midwestern Ontario, as it moves through around noon on Thursday, we’re expecting snowfall, but for us to the south of the 401, it will move in with rainfall and some embedded thunderstorm activity because our temperatures will be fluctuating."

Wednesday: Becoming cloudy in the morning. 40 per cent chance of flurries late in the afternoon. Wind becoming southwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 near noon. High minus 1. Wind chill minus 20 in the morning and minus 9 in the afternoon.

Thursday: Periods of rain. High 8.
