Short notice left seniors displaced; Norwich retirement home pleads guilty

The owners of a Norwich retirement home that closed abruptly two years ago has pleaded guilty to not providing adequate notice.

Trillium Care told residents on Oct. 26, 2024, that it would cease operations on Nov. 11 of that year, giving them only 17 days notice.

Under provincial law, operators must legally give at least 120 days before shutting down facilities.

The owner agreed to pay over $22,000 in restitution to a fund designed to help residents find other accommodations during emergencies.
