Rain-snow mix Saturday ahead of upcoming deep freeze

Environment Canada (EC) is warning residents across the region to be prepared for very cold conditions next week.

According to EC, temperatures may be colder than we’ve seen in years.

Before the deep freeze, Saturday sees a mix of snow and rain, changing to snow with a chance of flurries in the afternoon. Temperature falling to minus 4 in the afternoon, feeling like minus 11.

Saturday night will remain cloudy with a chance of flurries and a risk of snow squalls overnight and a low of minus 9, feeling like minus 12.

Sunday will be cloudy with flurries expected and temperature steady near minus 7, feeling like minus 14.

Monday, temperature drops for much of the week, with a high of minus 13 forecast.

Saturday: Rain mixed with snow changing to snow this morning and ending this afternoon then cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. Snowfall amount 5 cm. Wind southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming northwest 30 gusting to 50 this morning. Temperature falling to minus 4 this afternoon. Wind chill minus 11 this afternoon.

Saturday night: Cloudy. 40 per cent chance of flurries this evening. A few flurries beginning near midnight. Risk of snow squalls overnight. Local amount 2 cm. Wind north 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming light late this evening. Low minus 9. Wind chill near minus 12.

Sunday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. Wind becoming west 20 km/h late in the afternoon. Temperature steady near minus 7. Wind chill near minus 14.

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud with 40 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 13.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 14.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 13.

Thursday: Cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 6.
