Omega Fertility Clinic updates on IVF pause, cites no patient safety risks

London’s Omega Fertility Center has provided an update on their “unexpected fertilization outcomes.”

A London, Ont. fertility clinic has provided an update regarding the temporary pause of its IVF laboratory services, confirming that while “unexpected fertilization outcomes” occurred in mid-January, extensive reviews have found no patient safety risks.

The Omega Fertility Clinic stated that on Jan. 15, 16, and 17, 2026, a small number of IVF cycles yielded results inconsistent with typical laboratory outcomes. In response, Omega Fertility Clinic’s physicians and laboratory leadership made the decision to pause IVF laboratory procedures immediately to conduct a thorough review of all factors influencing laboratory performance, including equipment, environmental systems, procedures, and quality control.

A statement from clinic leadership said an internal investigation and an independent external assessment by an IVF laboratory expert have now been completed. The reviews examined the laboratory environment, equipment, and processes. While neither review identified a single definitive cause for the January outcomes, both confirmed that Omega’s laboratory operates to a high professional standard and found no indication of patient safety risk. The independent review also provided recommendations for additional monitoring and safeguards.

Omega Fertility Clinic also confirmed that embryos stored in cryostorage were not affected by the circumstances that led to the laboratory pause. Before resuming full IVF laboratory services, the clinic is completing a detailed step-by-step validation process to ensure all laboratory systems are performing exactly as expected. Full IVF services will only resume once this validation is successfully completed.

Acknowledging the significant emotional, physical, and financial commitment fertility care requires, the clinic stated it understands the disruption caused by unexpected changes to treatment plans.

Physicians and the care team have continued working directly with affected patients to review individual care plans and provide support. Steps have also been taken to support patients whose cycles were interrupted, including reimbursement of medication costs and ensuring that government-funded IVF cycles are not counted against patients whose treatments were paused.

“Our goal has been to approach this situation with the same care and diligence that we bring to every aspect of fertility treatment: by investigating thoroughly, validating our systems carefully, and communicating transparently as we move forward,” the clinic stated.
