London police investigate distraction-type theft of jewellery

London police have laid charges by way of arrest warrant in connection to an investigation into a distraction-type theft that took place last week.

Police say a female suspect was walking in the area of McNay Street near Justamere Road on Feb. 19, when another woman approached her from the passenger seat of a vehicle.

The suspect asked the victim for directions, then exited the vehicle to offer her a necklace as a thank-you gift and placed it around the victim’s neck.

The victim notified police of the incident when she noticed the necklace she was wearing originally was missing.

Officers located the suspect vehicle, a white Kia minivan, and had it impounded.

A search of the vehicle yielded imitation gold chains, bracelets, earrings and rings.

The reported stolen jewelry was not recovered.

The female suspect was identified and has been charged by way of warrant of arrest.

She, a 24 year old from Scarborough, has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.

However, police believe their may be additional victims.
