One of Bruce Power’s eight nuclear reactors is offline Friday, thanks to whole bunch of fish.
Bruce Power officials confirm that “a high volume of fish” clogged up a forebay at their Bruce A nuclear station, which caused challenges for the “turbine condenser cooling system.”
As a result, operators decided it best to take the “proactive” step of removing Unit 2 from service in the overnight hours of Thursday, Feb. 13.
Water is an essential part of the nuclear power process, primarily as a cooling agent.
Bruce Power officials couldn’t say how long Unit 2 would be offline for, as a result of the “fish clogging” incident.
