Closing arguments heard in case of tow truck operator charged with running over London man

Closing arguments were heard on Monday in a case seeing a tow truck driver accused of killing a London man.

With the defense calling it an unfortunate accident and the Crown arguing it was a lack of attention, closing arguments were delivered Monday in the case of a tow truck operator charged in the death of a 56-year-old London man.

Garnet Prydie suffered severe head injuries after being run over and killed in a parking lot moments after picking up some fast food near Wellington and Southdale Roads in July of 2022.

Abdul Kazoun, 26, was operating his tow truck at the time and has pled not guilty to dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

In his closing arguments on Monday, Crown Attorney Steve Monaghan said that there was a lack of responsibility on the accused.

“There is no reaction and he’s the one driving. He’s not actually paying attention,” said Monaghan.

“He wasn’t aware of where the front of the vehicle is going.”

Defence lawyer Ron Ellis countered by saying, “There was objectively no unreasonable driving that night.”

“He didn’t flee at any high rate of speed because he wasn’t aware of what may have happened,” Ellis argued.

After hearing all of the evidence and submissions, Justice Patricia Moore is expected to hand down her decision on the case on April 10, 2026.
