Autopsy photos show abrasions on deceased toddler, court hears

Autopsy photos of Nathaniel McLellan showed abrasions to his head and face, the court heard Friday.

For the first time in the case, autopsy photos of 15-month-old Nathaniel McLellan were shown at the manslaughter trial looking into his death.

David Bates, an OPP forensic investigator at the time, described the photos which showed abrasions on the toddler’s face and head.

The infant died in October 2015 after being rushed to hospital with a head injury.

The court has heard he had been at home of the accused Meggin Van Hoof who operated a home daycare at the time in Strathroy.

The 46-year-old Van Hoof has pled not guilty to one count of manslaughter.

The trial is adjourned until Feb. 9, 2026.
