A 47-year-old Guelph man is facing charges after police were called about a suspicious man in the east-end before 5 a.m. Friday

Police were notified that a man was walking around checking vehicles in the area of Cedarvale Avenue and Oakes Crescent and gaining access to multiple vehicles.

Officers checked the area and said they eventually found him hiding behind a house on Valleyhaven Lane.

Police said he began running through backyards and was arrested following a brief foot pursuit.

He allegedly had a folding knife, a homemade lock-punching tool and stolen property on him when police searched him.

Police said he provided a name to them but it was fake.

“Investigation revealed he is currently on bail with conditions to remain in his residence unless with his surety, not to possess weapons and not to possess any break and enter tools,” police said in a news release.

The man is charged with trespassing by night, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing stolen property, possessing break and enter tools, obstructing police, three counts of breaching bail and failing to appear in court. He was held for a bail hearing.
