A Guelph man has been arrested after a homeowner found the stranger inside his house.
Officers with the Guelph Police Service were called to Greengate Road and Applewood Crescent shortly after 9 a.m. Friday. The homeowner told them he came home and found someone inside the house trying to steal his property. The suspect allegedly shoved the homeowner and dropped the items he was trying to steal before running off.
A Waterloo Regional Police canine unit was called in to help track down the suspect, who was found at a nearby business.
During his arrest, officers found a switchblade knife, a box cutter and a flashlight.
A 53-year-old Guelph man has been charged with break and enter, possession of break-in instruments, unauthorized possession of a weapon and breaching an undertaking.
