Car stolen while warming up in Guelph General Hospital’s parking lot

A driver who reported her car stolen later tracked it to downtown Guelph.

The woman told Guelph Police it was taken from the parking lot at Guelph General Hospital around 7 a.m. Friday. The car had been warming up at the time, with the keys still in the ignition.

The victim then called police back saying she had confronted the woman who allegedly stole her car, got back the keys and located her vehicle.

Officers responded but were unable to find the alleged thief.

The woman was described as being in her 20’s or 30’s, with bright red hair that could possibly have been a wig. She also wore a black winter jacket, blue hospital pants and black sandals.

“The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft,” a media release said. “This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys.”
