Two charged after drugs, firearm seized in Kitchener-Waterloo investigation

Two men are facing multiple charges after Waterloo Regional Police seized drugs and a firearm as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police said members of the Street Crimes Unit executed two search warrants in Kitchener and Waterloo on Friday.

During the searches, investigators seized suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with a handgun, ammunition and two replica firearms.

A 44-year-old Waterloo man and a 44-year-old Kitchener man were both arrested and charged with:

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
• Carless storage of a firearm
• Possession of a prohibited weapon (four counts)
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)

One of the accused is also charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

The arrests come after police confirmed to CTV News Friday that officers were executing a search warrant at a residence in Waterloo’s university district.

Officers and multiple police cruisers were seen outside a building on Spruce Street Friday morning. At the time, police said one man has been arrested but did not provide further details.
