Three youths with cap guns arrested at gunpoint by Guelph Police

Guelph Police say fake guns could result in real consequences.

On Saturday, just before 9 p.m., a driver reportedly saw people pointing guns out the window of a car on Edinburgh Road South.

Police said officers with the Tactics and Rescue Unit tracked the vehicle down near Allan Avenue and executed a high-risk traffic stop. The three occupants were then ordered out at gunpoint.

Police said they ranged in age from 17 to 19 years old.

Three cap guns were also found in the vehicle.

Police said the trio were cautioned for possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose and released without charges.

“Residents are reminded that fake or replica firearms can cause tremendous upset if witnesses believe they are real,” explained Guelph Police in a media release. “Officers responding to such calls must respond as if the involved firearms are real until proven otherwise.”
