SIU investigating 19-year-old’s death in Waterloo

The Special Investigations Unit is looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 19-year-old man in Waterloo.

According to the SIU, officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service were called to a residence in the Erb Street and Fischer-Hallman Road area on Thursday night for a person experiencing a mental health crisis.

“Officers entered the residence and apprehended the man under the Mental Health Act,” a press release explained. “Shortly after, he became vital signs absent.”

The SIU said emergency responders performed first aid and the man was taken a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The SIU said two of its investigators are reviewing the incident.
