The Waterloo Regional Police Service is investigating a serious collision involving a single vehicle in Kitchener.

Emergency services were called to the area of Ottawa Street South, near Strasburg Road, around 11:10 a.m. Saturday for reports of a collision involving a Hyundai sedan.

“The Hyundai left the roadway striking a hydro pole, fence, and eventually a structure in the backyard of a nearby residential home,” Waterloo Regional Police said in a media release.

At around 1:25 p.m., a vehicle could be seen partially underneath what appeared to be a shed on a residential property.

Police said the driver, a 26-year-old woman from Kitchener, was airlifted to an out of region hospital with serious injuries. A 29-year-old female passenger received minor injuries.

A portion of Ottawa Street South was closed for a lengthy period of time for the investigation and hydro repairs.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is encouraged to call police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8856.
