Region of Waterloo to collect waste on Saturday to cover any missed collection

The Region of Waterloo is trying still trying to catch up to its waste collection schedule and will be collecting on Saturday to try to make up for it.

Friday marked day four of the new cart-based system and it’s been off to a rough start so far.

Some residents have expressed frustration that their pick-up didn’t happen on their newly-assigned collection day.

The region said they have been trying to work out the kinks.

“For the first week of cart-based collection, more trucks and crew were brought in to support the additional work,” the region told CTV News in an emailed statement. “Crews will operate on Saturday to cover any missed collection. Residents are asked to leave their collection out for it to be collected.”

There will be no collection on Sunday or Monday.

Next week starting on Tuesday, collection will shift to the regular service of bi-weekly for garbage and weekly for organics.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding as we launch this new program,” the region said.

Collection is being done by a third-party contractor, which the region said brought in additional support for its 80-truck fleet.

Residents are urged to check the Waste Whiz app to see if their collection day has changed.
