Officer assaulted during arrest in Arthur

A person from Arthur has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place and assaulting a peace officer.

The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were called to an address in Arthur on Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. They arrested a 37-year-old and charged them with failure to comply with a release order, mischief and being intoxicated in a public place.

Police said while the person was in custody, they became aggressive, leading to additional charges of assaulting a peace officer and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect a victim’s identity.
