People in Brantford, Six Nations of the Grand River and Haldimand County are being warned flooding could be possible as water levels rise downstream.
In an update on Friday afternoon, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) announced Flood Warnings for the three areas in addition to previously reported concerns for Grand Valley, Waldemar, Drayton, West Montrose, the Village of Conestogo, Kitchener, Cambridge, New Hamburg and Ayr.
“A mixed precipitation event resulted in greater than 100 mm of total precipitation in many areas and increased runoff causing flooding in some parts of the Grand River watershed,” the update read.
The GRCA said river flows are increasing in the Grand River south of Brantford as the water moves downstream.
The highest risk for flooding in Brantford is expected in the late evening or overnight on Friday, especially in low-lying areas such as Gilkison Street. Meanwhile people in Six Nations can expect their portion of the Grand River to peak in the early morning hours of Saturday, potentially causing flooding near 4th Line and Bateman Line. People in Haldimand County are warned to be cautious area Fife Street in Caledonia, Ouse Street in Cayuga, Sim Lock Road and Grand Sports Road. The water is expected to be highest in Haldimand County on Saturday.
Previous Flood Warnings

People living in West Montrose, the Village of Conestogo, Kitchener, Cambridge, Grand Valley, Waldemar, Drayton and New Hamburg are urged to continue being careful around swollen watercourses as flood warnings will remain in place until at least Monday at 12 p.m.
