Kitchener Rangers charity set to break 50/50 record with $100K jackpot

The charity arm of the Kitchener Rangers says an OHL record-breaking amount is up for grabs at Friday’s game and it’s all for a good cause.

Rangers Reach, the charitable arm of the Kitchener Rangers, is set to break an Ontario Hockey League record with a massive grand prize for Friday’s 50/50 raffle.

The non-profit organization has been selling tickets for this draw for16 days. Seven hours before ticket sales closed on the final day, March 13, the prize was already $99,000.

“It certainly is going to set an Ontario Hockey League 50/50 jackpot record tonight. And we’re super excited about that,” Craig Campbell, executive director of Rangers Reach, said. “[I] could never have dreamed a few short years ago when we launched Rangers Reach, that we’d put up a six-figure prize amount at a Rangers game.”

The Kitchener Rangers face off against the Owen Sound Attack Friday night, but you don’t have to be at the game to score tickets - they can be bought online.

Ticket sales end at 9:15 p.m. The grand prize winner will be posted online shortly after. The winner will get a call from retired hockey insider, TSN’s Bob McKenzie. Early bird prizes will be drawn at 5 p.m. and include a Sidney Crosby autographed Pittsburgh Penguins jersey and a pair of Maple Leaf tickets.

Another lucky ticket-holder will win a $200 Keg gift card.

Money made from the raffle will go back into the community.

“We offer community impact grants to local organizations. We have regular grants and we have our scholarship program as well, annually, that we award scholarships to students in Waterloo Region,” Campbell said.

Campbell said Rangers Reach is proud to award someone a life-changing amount of money.

“It’s tax free, and it’s going to make a difference for somebody,” he said.
