Juror dismissed at Elfgard Oughtred’s second-degree murder trial

A juror has been dismissed after a one-day delay at a Brantford, Ont. murder trial.

Elfgard Oughtred is facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of her husband, Gordon Oughtred.

The trial was briefly paused on Thursday. When it resumed on Friday, the court learned the delay was due to “unforeseen circumstances” and one juror had been dismissed.

No reason for the dismissal was given and the trial will continue with 11 jurors.

On Friday, the Crown called upon a forensic pathologist to explain the details of Gordon’s autopsy.

He was found dead in his home on Nov. 24, 2022.

Blunt force trauma was listed as his cause of death.

The Crown alleges Elfgard killed her husband with a hammer, claiming she had a gambling addiction that caused stress in their marriage.

Previously, Elfgard’s daughter testified that while in police custody her mother had told her she attacked Gordon with a hammer.
