Freezing rain possible this weekend

Published:

Freezing rain could be on the way for parts of Ontario. CTV's Will Aiello explains where it could be coming.

Although most of Waterloo Region will be spared from the worst of a storm expected to hit Ontario over the weekend, there is a chance for some freezing rain.

Areas north of Kitchener and Cambridge are under a special weather statement from Environment Canada warning of the potential for freezing rain Friday night into Sunday morning.

Temperatures will be near the freezing mark as the rain begins to fall Friday night and into Saturday morning. There is a second, and more significant round of freezing rain expected on Saturday night into Sunday morning as temperatures dip even further.

Residents are warned power outages are possible if ice builds up on trees and power lines and freezing rain warning may be issued as the weather system draws closer.

Meanwhile, areas further north, including Caledon and Barrie, are under a freezing rain warning as the storm is expected to be more severe there. Anyone travelling north is encouraged to postpone all non-essential travel until conditions improve.
