Former patients of Brantford dentist urged to get tested for blood-borne infections

Grand Erie Public Health has renewed their appeal for former patients of a Brantford dentist to get tested for blood-borne infections.

Earlier this year, public health wrapped up an investigation into concerns about infection prevention protocols at Dr. George Chan Dentistry at 353 St. Paul Avenue. Patients who had seen the dentist between Nov. 3, 2021 and Nov. 3 2025 were urged to get tested for diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Notices were sent out by mail.

On Tuesday, public health announced approximately half of the patients they had reached out to had completed the testing. No cases of infection have been linked to the clinic.

“We are asking former patients to take this precautionary step not only for their own health awareness, but to help us gather the information needed to guide any further public health recommendations,” Dr. Jason Malenfant, Grand Erie Public Health’s medical officer of health, said in a statement.
