Flood warnings issued for Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations and Haldimand County

New flood warnings have been issued for communities along the Grand River.

On Wednesday, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) updated its flood warnings for Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations and Haldimand County. Previous flood warnings for St. Jacobs and Kitchener remain in effect while the rest of the Grand River watershed is under a flood watch.

It comes after thunderstorms blew through the area on Monday, bringing up to 60 mm of rain.

“Current forecasts indicate more precipitation is expected throughout the week and over the weekend, including the ongoing risk of thunderstorms,” the GRCA said. “While projected totals vary, most forecasts call for 30 to 40 mm of rain over the next few days.”

Flooding has been reported in Flood Warning Zone 2 in West Montrose and may reach Flood Warning Zone 3.

Flooding in Brant County is expected to primarily impact Glen Morris and Paris, including neighbourhoods near Penman’s Dam and the Nith River.

Low-lying areas in Six Nations and Haldimand County may also be affected.
