First-degree murder charge laid in connection to suspicious death at Brantford motel

One person is in custody after police responded to a report of a suspicious death in a Brantford motel late Friday night.

Brantford Police received a 911 call around 11 p.m. of a report of an injured man inside a motel room located on Colborne Street near Locks Road.

A 34-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not believed to be random,” police said in a media release issued on Saturday. “Police do not believe there to be any impact to public safety as a result of this incident.”

In the early hours of the morning on Sunday, officers arrested a 48-year-old Brantford resident and charged him with Murder – 1st Degree.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

The investigation is still active and ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
