Erbs Road bridge closed to traffic until November

The Erbs Road bridge will be closed for at least the next six months.

The Region of Waterloo said workers need that time to make safety upgrades, which includes replacing the deck, railings and bearings.

The bridge spans the width of the Nith River near Nafziger Road in Wilmot Township.

On April 13, the road closed to traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. It is not expected to reopen until Oct. 31.

“Only local access from Nafziger Road and Sandhills Road will be allowed up to the closed bridge,” the region’s website said.

They suggested drivers navigate around the closure using Nafziger Road, Bleams Road and Sandhills Road.

Though, they warned, Nafziger Road will be resurfaced between Erbs Road and Snyder’s Road sometime this summer, which could take about two weeks to complete.

The region also said garbage and waste collection will be a little different for residents and businesses in the area.

“The contractor will move the black and green carts, recycling bins, yard waste and bulky items as needed and will return empty containers to the correct property the same day,” the region’s website said. “Please label your carts with your address and place all carts at your curb before 7 a.m. on your regular collection day.”
