A man in his 70s is seriously hurt after a neighbour he had never met before allegedly assaulted him in Guelph Tuesday morning.
Guelph Police said they were called to the home near Woodlawn Road East and Inverness Drive for a reported disturbance.
After initial investigation, police said a man had broken a fence to enter a neighbor’s backyard, before taking a shovel from a nearby shed and smashing open the home’s patio door. Once he went inside, police said he used the same shovel to repeatedly hit the homeowner in the head and face.
Police said they got there as the assault was happening and stopped it from continuing.
A man in his 70s had serious injuries on his face and was sent to hospital.
Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Guelph. He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault to resist arrest, break and enter and mischief. He was held in police custody to appear in bail court.
