Driver charged in fatal Highway 401 crash that killed tow truck operator

OPP have charged a man from Mount Hope after a tow truck driver was hit and killed. CTV’s Colton Wiens reports.

A 32-year-old from Mount Hope has been charged after a tow truck operator was killed on Highway 401 on Dec. 3.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers arrested and charged 32-year-old Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh is charged with dangerous operation causing death and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death.

Singh was released from custody and is expected to appear in court in Woodstock on Jan. 27.

A tow truck operator from Kitchener, Ont. was killed on Highway 401 the morning of Dec. 3. The vehicle that hit the operator did not remain at the scene. Police released an image of a transport truck which was believed was involved in the collision. On Dec. 4, police shared they had identified a driver and were looking to speak with them.

“We just want to thank the public for their assistance and providing information [the] that they did,” OPP Const. Matthew Foster said. “And again, [we] just want to share our thoughts and condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this tragic time.”

Police said they are not looking for any other persons of interest in this case.
