Driver caught going 100km/h over the speed limit in Guelph

A 20-year-old driver from Toronto is facing stunt driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they were caught travelling more than 100 km/hr over the posted speed limit in Guelph.

The incident happened around midnight Sunday, as an officer was conducting proactive traffic enforcement near the Hanlon Parkway.

The driver was charged with stunt driving with excessive speed, as well as speeding more than 50 km/hr over the stated limit.

Police said the vehicle was impounded for 14 days and their driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.

“The OPP reminds all motorists that stunt driving not only puts the driver at risk but endangers everyone else on the road,” police said in a media release. “Speed limits are enforced to protect all road users.”
