Closures in Brantford due to flooding along the Grand River

Brantford shut down access to several city streets Thursday as water levels continue to rise accross the Grand River watershed.

A flood warning remains in place for Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations, Haldimand County and West Montrose. The Grand River Conservation Authority said 60 mm of rain fell over a 48-hour period earlier this week and another 30 to 40 mm is expected in the next few days.

Brantford has closed Gilkison Street, between Elliott Avenue and Catharine Avenue, until further notice.

They also temporarily blocked entry to:

• Ballantyne Drive river access point
• Gilkison Flats Trail between Gilkison Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway bridge
• D’Aubigny Trail between D’Aubigny Creek Park and the Ballantyne Drive river access point

These locations will remain closed until further notice.

“The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around local waterways,” the city said in a social media post. “Parents are reminded to keep their children and pets away from watercourses.”
