Brantford school briefly placed in lockdown after unwanted person report

A Brantford high school was briefly placed in lockdown Wednesday morning after police received a report of an unwanted person inside the building.

Brantford Police said the call came in around 10:20 a.m. regarding an individual inside North Park Collegiate Vocational School on North Park Street. As a precaution, the school was placed under a temporary lockdown while officers searched the building.

Police quickly determined the person had already left the property, and the lockdown was lifted at approximately 10:50 a.m.

No weapons were involved, and police said there was no threat to student safety at any time.

“The safety and well-being of students and staff is always our top priority,” said Ryan Strang, a spokesperson for the Grand Erie District School Board. “The school followed police direction and went into lockdown for 30 minutes while they conducted their investigation. We are thankful for the quick response by police, and staff and students’responsive approach to follow emergency procedures.”

The individual was located nearby a short time later and arrested. A 26-year-old Brantford woman is now charged with two counts of criminal harassment and has been held for a bail hearing.
